The last week has been brilliant.  Following on from Danny Boyle’s wonderful opening ceremony, the London Olympics has just got better and better.  What a fab way to spend a Saturday evening – watching 3 great sports stars build on the tally of gold medals we had already won, in inspirational fashion.  Everywhere I have been for the last week, people have been talking about the Olympics and the buzz across the nation has been unprecedented.

So, how can we use this in business?

It is no surpise that employing happier, more motivated individuals is good for business.  Over the last few years, there has been little for people to get excited about and motivation in organisations has started to suffer.  Can we build on the momentum created by a great summer of national events and utilise this in our working lives?

The answer is yes.  We are developing a new programme to help business leaders and managers get the best from their people, and create a great place to work.  Looking at engagement, motivation and feedback, this course focuses on managing people during tough times and gives delegates some tips to improve their team’s performance.

There is a lot to be learnt from our athletes, many of whom have overcome injury and other adversity to get where they have done.  And often it is the coach, quietly working away in the background who deserves much of the credit.  We have a lot to learn from these people – a few words of wisdom, some encouragement and hard work and the success speaks for itself.

Time for a little reflection on what we can learn from these inspirational people I feel.
